The Animated Trail of Destruction
2024
an installation of painting and animation
From the practice of hand-painted animation, I have isolated the observation that when you have to move a character on a painted background, if you don't use some technical artifice, from the simple construction of the silhouette, you destroy the background irreparably. If you need movement across the whole length of the scene, from the moment the character enters the frame and for as long it takes her to get out, she destroys everything in her path. I strive to restore this destruction, when I paint each frame individually, but running the animation in a loop will allow comparison to the original frame and you will see a difference, which is a metaphor for the way we currently interact with the natural environment.
