Orchid Sheltered in a Burrow, 2024, acrylic on canvas, 88 x 116 cm.
Illustration of an act of sheltering a flowering Phalaenopsis orchid, a species that in Romania can only survive as a houseplant, in a hole in the ground found in a field, which may have been dug by a small animal to build a burrow. It is an ambiguous gesture, and painting based on the photograph documenting the action aims to broaden these uncertain directions of interpretation. It can mean a mutation of adaptation, a shifting of basic needs between kingdoms, so that an animal's shelter is considered optimal for plants or humans. But it can also be a coalition of animals and plants retreating together away from human eyes and actions.
