Scenography for Painting

Following on the idea of finding ways to introduce freehand drawing in my practice, I recently came up with a particular style of image I make in order to use it as background for future picture-in-picture type of paintings. The sketches are done in acrylic on paper, around an empty white area, where the second small image in the painting is supposed to be placed.

On the picture thus obtained, I am applying a digital filter that reduces the pictorial details and enhances the feeling of the image being real, actually coming from a digitally manipulated photograph of a real place.
