mirror would be a case of self ... These include the nature, 2024, acrylic on canvas, 56 x 84 cm.

A kale plant that grows in a container is positioned by the artist in front of a mirror so that the plant can admire her reflection. Demonstrated by someone who lives alone, this might look like a wishful-thinking act, when, addressing solitude, one instils human-like features into any receptacle that might receive them, to emulate companionship. It is also a method to understand a different type of life, the vegetal, of which, as more and more research is carried out, we begin to learn that is capable of complexities beyond our understanding. And understanding is essential to us, so this is a gesture of theatrical positioning of a plant on a level that would permit intelligible conversations. The gaze of the artist turning inward on her own life is accompanied by the gaze of the pant doing the same with her image. The two creatures might exchange insights gathered from their similar endeavours. They already share a common living space.
